 Hiring a bagpiper, an ensemble, or the entire band for a Wedding, Wake, or Special Event may be something you are interested in. Bagpipe music can definitely provide a unique form of musical entertainment for that very special event.
Here are some practical things to consider about while you shop for this unique form of musical entertainment:
- The band is comprised entirely of volunteers who invest significant amounts of time and effort in their musicianship.
- It typically takes a musician 1-2 hours to prepare for an event. This includes full-dress (kit), travel and preparing their instrument. Bagpipes require on-site tuning and are very susceptible to temperature and humidity fluctuations.
- By their very nature, bagpipes are loud. Keep in mind that these wind instruments were designed to be heard outside, over vast open distances during war battles. Our own sound level measurements indicate an average of 99dB level at the musician's ear. This is quite loud. As such, some thought should be given as to when/where the music should be actually played for practical reasons.
